America’s Cup trials Newport 2012, from the Arabella

I was recently  asked by Boston Magazine to accompany  their staff and clients on a private charter aboard the Arabella to view a day  of the 2012 America’s Cup trials.

We boarded the 160′ Windjammer in Newport harbor and had some amazing front row views of the racing.

It was a great day to be out on the water for sailboats of all sizes.

These AC45 wing-sailed catamarans are extremely fast sailboats and are fascinating to watch.

The match race to watch that day was Oracle Team USA vs Korea.

Oracle came away with the win.

These boats can turn on a dime. When they weren’t racing, they were casually weaving through the boat filled harbor.

Tem New Zealand had a rough day capsizing early on and unable to compete the rest of their races for the day.

The crew hung to the netting for quite a while until they were able to be righted.

No complaints here, another beautiful day on the water.
